NDA – Nuclear Decommissioning Authority – which has responsibility for the UK’s public sector civil nuclear liabilities and their subsequent management. It became operational in April 2005. It has statutory responsibility, under the Energy Act 2004, for the disposal and the safe and secure interim storage of its waste; it will also be responsible for the programme to develop and deliver geological disposal, as recommended by CoRWM, and for the programme of safe and secure storage until geological disposal is delivered.
